Accutane Policies and Procedures

What do I need to do EACH MONTH in order to pick up my prescription? Follow these 3 steps…

Step 1:

Get your MONTHLY blood work done within a few days before your office visit. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure the lab results are faxed to our office: 304-925-6780.

Patients who can get pregnant: Please be aware, that you have a 7-day window from the date of your pregnancy test in the office to pick up your prescription. If you do not pick up your prescription within this window, you will need to come back into our office for a new urine pregnancy test.

Step 2:

Come to your MONTHLY office visit.

Step 3:

Get confirmed online in iPLEDGE. This will happen once steps 1&2 are complete. You should receive an email notification prompting you to register and create an iPLEDGE account.

Male Patients: We will confirm you in iPLEDGE after your blood work is done and you have come into the office for your monthly visit.

Patients who can get pregnant: We will confirm you in iPLEDGE after your blood work is done and you have come into the office for your monthly visit and urine pregnancy test. After we have confirmed you in iPLEDGE, you can log into iPLEDGE and take your quiz.

INITIATING ISOTRETINOIN & THE iPLEDGE PROGRAM

The iPLEDGE program is a strict, government-required program to prevent patients who can get pregnant from becoming pregnant while on isotretinoin. All females and males must participate.

Note: Your provider must follow this program and cannot change any of the requirements.

Before starting isotretinoin, your provider will talk to you about the safe use of this medication and you will need to sign consent forms in order to receive treatment.

If you fail to keep appointments, you will be unable to get your prescription filled.

FOR FEMALES OF CHILDBEARING AGE:

  • You must be on 2 specific forms of birth control before starting isotretinoin. Your provider must get 2 negative pregnancy tests, 30 days apart, before you can proceed with the medication. The second pregnancy test must be obtained within 5 days of the menstrual cycle. If you choose not to be sexually active during treatment, you still MUST have the two negative pregnancy tests.

  • You must answer a series of questions online every month.

  • Monthly prescriptions must be filled within 7 days of the visit to the dermatologist. It is important that you notify your provider well before the 7th day if there are any unforeseen delays, such as prior authorizations.
