Biopsy Aftercare:

  • Keep the Band-Aid in place for 24 hours.

  • Wash area with soap and water daily.

  • Apply plain Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline and a new Band-Aid daily until the skin is fully healed.

  • If the area becomes red or tender, apply Polysporin ointment twice daily.

  • Call the office if there is concern for infection.

Liquid Nitrogen (Cryotherapy) Aftercare:

  • It is ok to bathe normally after your treatment. Gently clean the area with warm water and mild soap, then pat dry. Apply Vaseline or plain Petroleum Jelly to the area 1-2x daily if needed. You do not have to keep the area covered with a Band-Aid, but you may do so if you prefer.

  • The site treated will become red after the procedure and may develop a blister or scab after treatment. This is normal. DO NOT pick at the blister or scab or remove the top of the blister. It will heal on its own within 1-2 weeks.

Excision Aftercare:

  • Leave the top pressure bandage on your wound for 48 hours after your procedure; keep it clean and dry.

  • After 48 hours you may remove the pressure bandage. Leave the transparent covering over the suture line. This is called a Bioclusive. It is a dressing that helps protect the wound, keeps it clean, and promotes healing. Leave this in place until it comes off on its own.

  • Wash with soap and water daily after both bandages are removed. Do not scrub the area.

  • Apply a thick layer of Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly to the wound daily.

  • Cover with bandage.

  • Change the dressing daily.

Activity Restrictions:

  • Avoid heavy lifting (anything over 10 pounds) or strenuous exercise for at least a few weeks. Preferably 2-6 weeks. This allows the area to heal to prevent wound dehiscence and poor scar cosmesis completely. We intentionally suture the wound elevated because with time the area will flatten.
